Description: The Wire Fox Terrier is one of the many terrier dog breeds. It resembles the Smooth Fox Terrier but all indications are the Wire Fox Terrier dog breed was developed separately.

History: The Wire Fox Terrier was developed in England for Fox Hunting. It didn't become popular as a family pet until the 1930's. Queen Victoria owned a Wire Fox Terrier.

Temperament: The Wire Fox Terrier is a brave and active terrier. Cheerful, lovable, enthusiastic and playful with children. Affectionate, very devoted and loyal with the family, they truly enjoy their company. As with all dog breeds the personality of the parents and socialization of the puppy always comes into play.

Height: Male Dogs: 14 to 16 inches. Female Dogs: 13 to 15 inches. On averageWeight: Male Dogs: 15 to 20 lbs. Female Dogs 12 to 19 lbs. On average.

Health Problems: The Wire Fox Terrier or Wirehaired Fox Terrier can be prone to epilepsy. Epilepsy is suspected to have a genetic component in this breed. With this concern it's important to know the history of the Wire Fox Terrier puppies parents and ancestors to see if this genetic defect has occured in the bloodline.

Living Condition: The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a very active dog and needs room to roam. Not suggested for an apartment setting unless you have an adequate fenced yard. They tend to like the colder climates also.

Exercise Required: The Wire Fox Terrier can do well in an apartment or condo setting if they get enough daily exercise. Daily walks are suggested. A fenced yard would be a big plus for this breed.

Life Expectancy: 12-15 years on average

Litter Size: 3-5 puppies per litter on average

Origin: The Wire Fox Terrier is one of the oldest Terrier breeds. It originated in the British Isles in the 17th century.
