DOG TRAINING TIPS

Dog training tips for the beginner: One of the best tips for dog training is to think about what training you will use. When you start out with a new dog you have to think about the training of the dog. Choose the type of training that will fit in with you and your dog. You need to think about the consistency of training and who will need to help you train your dog. There are lots of types of dog training out there so think about which type of training will fit in with you both.

Treat training, this is based on positive reward in a currency your dog likes, hence treats. This works well for most dogs, but you need to still give positive praise. Think about the long term health. Think of healthy treats such as carrot sticks or small pieces of hot dogs.

Clicker training, this is based on the sound of the clicker reinforcing to the dog something good is about to happen. The clicker is a sound you click just for that. Training with a clicker gives the same sound every time, unlike our voices, which changes and is used by us all day long.

Dog training collars, these come in a variety of ranges and some good research is required before you take on this type of training. There are choke collars which are mostly used for agility training or for service dog training. Head collars, which fit over the dogs head. These are best used for directional training. This gives you control over where the dog goes or faces. Pronged collars are good for the smaller person who owns a large dog.

Dog training tips that help with what ever training method you choose is to keep the tone of your voice consistently the same. Depending on the job in hand, so for your training sessions you may be best to use a high voice that sounds fun, that way you are setting the scene for your dog, saying here comes fun and games, again throughout the training session keep the voice fun. You may like to use tone as a negative as well, here you have a lower tone for the command "No" this, the dog will pick up.

Never shout as all this does is add confusion to your dog. Praising, this is the best tip of all, regardless of what training you under take with your dog praise works. Dogs want praise, they wish to please you. Praise shows them that through what they have done you are happy, please with it; they love this above nearly anything else. Always praise the correct response from your dog. If they are learning something new, praise what they did right, each step in the right direction is good. Training sessions need to be fun and fairly short say ten to twenty minutes long.

As you get to know your dog better you will see when to end the session. End on a good note, even if that means you go back to a few basics of course you should have praise your dog for all their hard work that session. Sessions should ideally be a few times a day, three to four would be great. Whatever training program you use remember to stick with it and not chop and change the program or this leads to a confused dog and owner.

The last tip is dogs keep on learning, they do not stop at a set age. Keep it fun, it is not an exam dog's love to have fun and will learn well given the right motivation.
